Ali Askari came to Los Angeles in 2006 to attend the New York Film Academy, but dropped out after only three months when he had an opportunity to make his first feature film starring Michael Kenneth Williams of HBO’s “The Wire” and "Boardwalk Empire". Sadly, the reality of the industry came crashing down, and the film is - to this day - unfinished. Ali at that point decided to continue his education, this time opting to attend the Los Angeles Film School. His graduation thesis short film was “Dark All Around”, which went on to great critical success, debuting at the 64th Cannes Film Festival. As a black, Iranian filmmaker who counts Spike Lee amongst his mentors, Ali strives for reality in his work, and to tell stories that have meaning beyond merely entertainment. Ali is represented by Jethro Rothe-Kushel of Scenario Entertainment.
